The Rhode Island CS Proficiencies course introduces students to the six Rhode Island CS proficiency statements: Computational Thinking & Programming, Computing Systems & Networks, Cybersecurity, Data & Analysis, Digital Literacy, and Responsible Computing in Society. Through interactive lessons, hands-on projects, and engaging activities, students develop essential technical skills while exploring the role and impact of technology on individuals and society.

MODULES - 6
Students learn the basics of programming by giving Karel the Dog commands in a grid world while using problem-solving strategies to break down larger problems into smaller parts and develop, test, and evaluate solutions.
Students explore various technologies and their impact on the world while learning about network protocols, strategies to protect online information, and systematic troubleshooting techniques for hardware and software issues.
Students learn about cybersecurity risks, physical and digital security measures, network protocols, and strategies to protect online information while practicing safe Internet etiquette.
Students gather, analyze, and present data in various formats while exploring bias, data storage, and the use of models and simulations, culminating in a project where they collect and analyze data to answer a self-selected question.
Students develop digital literacy skills by selecting appropriate tools, synthesizing information, and creating engaging artifacts while learning Internet safety, exploring art and technology with p5.js, and building a personal homepage using HTML and CSS.
Students learn to engage with digital tools safely and ethically, develop a positive web presence, practice Internet etiquette, and explore the opportunities, challenges, and impacts of technology on individuals and society.
